Sometimes the banging noise isn't water hammer. After sometime, when you no longer hear a knocking noise coming from radiators and the water starts flowing smoothly, close the valve. If you have functioning air chambers or water hammer arrestors, you might have a different problem: The straps that connect your plumbing to your home's wall studs could be loose, causing the pipes to vibrate. Turn on the radiator and check for the knocking and banging sounds. If they still persist, repeat the process again. If you are still unable to resolve the problem, you may consider power flushing. If you have a noisy boiler - for example, if it sounds like a kettle boiling - it may be a sign that limescale has built up inside your boiler's heat exchanger. The limescale settles and restricts the water flow.

A noisy furnace could be giving you loud vibrational noises, high-pitched squeals or just general motor and air noise that sounds like a 747 is about to take off from your basement or garage. So, the trapped water inside the heat exchanger gets too hot. It could also be humming or whirring, which results in your furnace not running and heating as it should.
